REMEMBER that the purpose of this agreement is to ensure the orderly withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU and Euratom, the “custody rights” within the meaning of Article 2 of Regulation (EC) No. 2201/2003 (6), including custody rights acquired by way of arrest, law or legal effect. 1. The United Kingdom ensures that no reduction in rights, guarantees or equal opportunities, as set out in the part of the 1998 agreement on rights, safeguards and equal opportunities, is not the result of its withdrawal from the Union, including in the area of protection against discrimination, as provided for in the provisions of EU law in Annex 1 of that protocol, and implements this paragraph through specific mechanisms. (*1) The EU informs the other parties to the agreements that during the transitional period, the United Kingdom must be treated as a member state for the purposes of these agreements. 6. The border between the Eastern Sovereign Base Area and the territories of the Republic of Cyprus in which the Government of the Republic of Cyprus does not exercise effective control is treated, during the suspension of the application of the acquis in accordance with Article 1 of Protocol 10, as part of the external borders of the basic sovereign territories covered by this article. This limit can only be crossed at the Strovilia and Pergamos crossing points. With prior agreement and cooperation with the United Kingdom authorities, the Republic of Cyprus can take further measures to combat illegal immigration against people who have crossed the border. WITH REGARD TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE APPROPRIATE PROVISIONS TO ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE REGIMES SET OUT IN PROTOCOL 3 AFTER THE UK`S WITHDRAWAL FROM THE EU 8. A subsequent agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom indicates the parts of this protocol that it is taking as a replacement. As soon as an agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom enter into force after the withdrawal agreement comes into force, this protocol does not apply or be extinguished from the date of application of this subsequent agreement and in accordance with the provisions of this agreement which specify the consequences of that agreement on this protocol, depending on whether this may be the case in whole or in part. In order to facilitate the most efficient transfer of these equipment, the United Kingdom and the Community are taking the necessary legal steps to free the Community from its obligations and commitments arising from the agreement reached on 25 March 1994 with British Nuclear Fuels PLC (now Sellafield Ltd).
